Girls Inc. Greater Santa Barbara 13th Annual Celebration Awards Luncheon

Dr. Phillips was honored by Girls Inc. of Greater Santa Barbara for her leadership. In this speech (to over 600 people) she shares surprising statistics about the status of women and why we need to develop public speaking skills for girls so that they are ready to lead when their time comes. She reminds her audience that girls are watching all of us in terms of our capacity to be role models.

Lois Phillips Named Headliner for 2011 AWC National Conference in Tulsa, Oklahoma

Dr. Phillips addressed the Association for Women in Communication at their annual conference after receiving the Headliner Award. She shared her own professional journey driving along the “Communication Highway.” She believes that women bring a different but valuable perspective from men’s to the debates about the critical issues that will shape the future. She offers dramatic examples of disasters that could have been averted had women with special expertise been respected when they spoke up, predicting financial scandals to terrorist attacks. She explains the double bind women are in when they seek to gain credibility as the voice of authority and inspires the audience to remain tenacious when they have something to say, having confidence in what they know and believe to be true.
